My favorite coffee (and matcha) spots in NYC

I’ve officially lived in New York for two years! When I first moved here, I did not drink coffee. In fact, I very publicly proclaimed that I could never care for coffee.

Then, the weather got colder and it got really lonely in my little Clinton Hill studio. So, one day on my morning walk I decided to scope out the vibes at a coffee shop near me. I got a cortado (because it was Emma’s favorite coffee at the time) and a slice of whole wheat banana bread. The barista complimented my coat, I pet a dog, and I loved how tiny my cortado cup was — I went back the next day.

Over the next few months, I explored every coffee shop within a 2 mile radius of my studio and I tried all kinds of coffee. 2 years later, I’ve tried a lot of different coffee shops in the city. So, here are my favorites:

Before I start; this list is based off a very simple orders — it’s just coffee (or matcha) and some type of liquid

Rhythm Zero

I day dream about their coconut water americano at least 3 times a week. No one does a frothed espresso like they do. Also, the vibes are immaculate. The cafe has a creative and community-oriented feel — with it’s mix of contemporary and vintage decor. The ambiance typically encourages a slow pace. Go there to enjoy your coffee and just ..soak up the culture. (I also love their espresso tonic)

the west village location, coconut americao, espresso tonic
